Slot Machine positioning

Volumes have been said on this matter, and the contention and arguments about where the "hot" video slots are positioned in the casino are still raging – over 60 yrs after the slots were first added to the gaming floor in the casinos.

The classic rule is that the superior slot games were put just inside the main entry of the casino; so that casino fanatics walking by would see real jackpot winners … be influenced to come unto the gaming floor … play. Our standpoint is that this is not so anymore.

Practically all of the major casinos nowadays are mammoth complexes and you can no longer see inside from the sidewalk, so there is no longer a reason to have the ‘loose’ slots close-by any doorways.

Yet another standard rule is that loose slot machines are installed on the major aisles inside the casinos, again so that more potential gamblers could see winning jackpots and be roused to play. Notably however, we find that this also is no longer a universal rule.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played the slot machines at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the very last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

Today, casinos are constantly changing their philosophy about where to place the loose one armed bandits.
